Safety on Maintenance Sites: How We Achieve Injury-Free Man-Hours

عمال بخوذ السلامة في موقع العمل - Workers wearing safety helmets on site

Safety on maintenance sites is about more than wearing a helmet. Work often takes place in buildings occupied by students or staff and involves electricity, heights and cutting and irrigation equipment. Safety needs a clear daily system.

Core practices

  • Risk assessment: before every new task, with suitable control measures.
  • Permits to work: for electrical, work-at-height and hot work.
  • Lock-out/tag-out: isolating energy sources before servicing electrical and mechanical systems.
  • PPE: helmet, safety shoes, gloves, glasses and hi-vis vests as the task requires.
  • Protecting users: barriers and warning signs, and working outside peak hours when needed.
  • Heat stress: rest breaks, drinking water and adjusted summer working hours.

Daily awareness

A short toolbox talk before work reminds the team of the day’s hazards and how to avoid them, and encourages reporting of any observation.

Under our ISO 45001:2018 certified occupational health and safety system, Al-Haram Maintenance & Agriculture has recorded more than 1,479,340 safe man-hours without injury.
