Many government entities and facility management companies require ISO certificates when prequalifying contractors. But what do they practically mean for the client?

ISO 9001:2015 – Quality management

The company has documented procedures for planning, executing and inspecting work, handling non-conformities and complaints, and continual improvement. For the client: consistent quality that does not depend on individuals.

ISO 14001:2015 – Environmental management

The company identifies and manages its environmental impact, such as water and energy use and proper handling of waste and chemicals. For the client: works that comply with environmental requirements and support sustainability goals.

ISO 45001:2018 – Occupational health and safety

A system for risk assessment, permits to work, training, PPE and incident investigation. For the client: a safer site and lower risk to the property and its users.

What to ask when verifying

  • The certification body and validity date.
  • The certificate scope and whether it covers the required services.
  • Examples of the system in practice, such as reports and inspection plans.
